The Athens Farmers Market: A Georgia Tradition

One of the great luxuries of the South is the long growing season and with it the abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables available throughout the year. From now through November, you can find Georgia’s finest locally-grown, organic produce, meats, eggs, coffee, and prepared foods at the Athens Farmers Market. A collective of more than two dozen vendors, AFM aims to “foster a dynamic economic and educational connection between community members, farmers, and artisans by providing a marketplace for food grown locally using sustainable farming methods.” In addition to the healthy and delicious edible items for sale, you’ll also encounter a number of local artists and artisans specializing in handmade jewelry, textiles, ceramics, woodworking, photography, clothing, soap, skin care, pet care, and much more. The AFM convenes in Bishop Park on Saturdays from 8 A.M. to noon and at Creature Comforts Brewing Co. on Wednesdays from 4 to 7 P.M.
